Furniture Spotlight: Ralph Wilson Youth Club | Temple, Texas

This 40-year-old after-school program serves hundreds of kids each year, so the Perry Office Plus furniture team worked with designers and Board Members to create kid-friendly spaces with durable, fun furniture and a coordinated color palette. The result is modern, exciting furnishings across multiple rooms that the kids who come to the Ralph Wilson Youth Club will enjoy for years to come.

Perry Office Plus designed and furnished all the furniture in the Club, from offices to eating areas, but three spaces in particular posed unique seating challenges.

Outdoors, the large patio is where kids wait for parents at pick-up time and enjoy meals in good weather. Tables needed to be durable and heavy duty. Anova Rally tables were a great fit with expanded mesh and a durable finish. The tables are powder-coated then treated with a plasticized top coat. Bright red was chosen for a pop of color.

Anova’s complete collections allowed the Club to add coordinating exterior waste receptacles and surface-mounted bike racks. Inside the building, heavy backless benches in the same finish were used in the game rooms for additional seating.

The Club’s Movie Theater needed to maximize seating while keeping the screen visible to everyone in the room. JSI Ziva sofas gave the room kid-friendly, wipe-clean vinyl rows of seating.

In the back, Allsteel Rise created tiered seating where kids can lounge or perch and see over the sofas. Upholstered in durable Silvertex vinyl, they will hold up to shoes.

Finally, vinyl bean bags on the floor in the front are great for lounging.

Another unique space is the Club’s Video Game Room. While RWYC staff created built-in storage for the game consoles around the perimeter of the room with wall-mounted monitors, seating had to be easy to move and cluster where needed. Safco Zenergy, with an inflatable exercise ball on the inside, is a great option. Design-friendly vinyl was the perfect way to get the desired colors while being lightweight and fun for active kids to bounce on.

The Allsteel Rise units – this time in a durable Wooly fabric – once again provided tiered seating in the center of the room to easily view any of the monitors. Alternating the direction of the units and choosing the dual-fabric units give more of a graphic cube look.
